About the Role

Verterra Energy is seeking a Control System Engineer with experience in control system theory, design, and system implementation. The ideal candidate’s background may include experience with electrical and electronic systems, software development and the use of commercial software tools and instrumentation in the context of control systems. The ideal candidate will have a mix of managerial and hands-on experience, who knows how to plan and execute. We are looking for individuals who can grow with the company.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Development of automation and control systems using approaches that range from industry standard to new and novel.

  • Development of onboard environmental and health monitoring systems, including data acquisition.

  • Advancing Verterra Energy’s subsea-grade sensor and control system integration capabilities in pursuit of robust, long term system operation.

  • Field work for control system, sensor and data acquisition system testing and validation.

  • Advancing the ability for Verterra Energy’s modular hydro power systems to produce reliable electrical power with minimal operator intervention.

  • Create and maintain production prints, assembly instructions, bills of material, and other documentation related to developed products.

  • Generate procedural support documents and user manuals for developed products.

  • Create verification plans for component and system designs.

  • Work collaboratively with design team, operation team, vendors, suppliers, and internal staff.

Professional Qualifications

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering, electro-mechanical systems, systems engineering, robotics, or computer science

  • Relevant experience in engineering, R&D, and/or new product development.

  • Familiarity with MIL-Specs, NEMA and other industry standards.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • 3D Solid modeling (Solidworks) and 2D drafting experience

  • Experience using mathematics software such as Matlab, Labview or MathCAD

  • US Citizen

This position will work primarily from the Verterra Energy, Inc headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota.

This is a hands-on position, so the candidate will be equally at ease in the field, machine shop or behind a desk working virtually or directly with hardware and instruments. Fabrication, prototyping and testing will be routine activities.

  • Initiate and/or contribute to engineering changes and corrective and preventive actions.

  • Communicate with team members the end users of designs to gather feedback, provide technical support and troubleshoot problems.

  • Create verification plans for component and system designs.
